Different energy sources refer to the various ways we capture and use energy. These include renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. The kind of energy we select is determined by many aspects, including how it affects the environment, and if it’s affordable and readily available.

In 2018, fossil fuels (oil natural gas, natural gas and coal) were responsible for 80 percent of all energy consumed in the world. But these nonrenewable sources of energy can harm the environment in a variety ways. For example, oil drilling wreaks havoc on wildlife and communities as well as fracking can cause water pollution and coal power plants emit carbon dioxide.

Renewable energy, also known as green or clean energy is derived from natural and constantly replenishing resources such as sunlight wind, water, and sun. It’s a great option to reduce our dependence on dirty sources of energy and benefit the planet.

Renewable energy is not solely about protecting the environment. It’s also about being affordable, reliable, and efficient. Renewable energy is becoming increasingly popular as a means to power our homes and businesses.

The most popular renewable energy sources are solar, wind, hydropower, and nuclear. Solar energy is a technique that converts sunlight into energy and warmth. Wind energy is used to generate electricity in many locations across the globe. Hydropower harnesses force of fast-moving water to produce electricity. And nuclear energy uses the process of nuclear fission to produce electricity.
